Coalition Present at the Jefferson County Fair
The Jefferson County Anti-Drug Abuse Coalition was again at the Jefferson County Fair. This is due to the generosity
of Judge Samuel Kerr allowing the Coalition to share some space in his tent area. The DARE program from Steubenville,
OH was also sharing some space during that time. Coalition volunteers were able to answer some questions from the fair
goers, as well as hand out items about underage drinking and other drug abuse information.
Coalition Honors Member at Operation Street Smart Training
On June 5, 2007 The Jefferson County Anti-Drug Abuse Coalition honored Mrs. Carol Ivady as part of its program.
Mrs. Ivady was a charter member of the Coalition. Mrs. Ivady was the Vice Chairperson for the Coalition at one time.
Her efforts to assist those in our community with addiction problems spanned an 18 year period. She was the Drug and
Alcohol Program Director for the CARE Network, a division of Jefferson Behavioral Health System. Carol lost her battle
with cancer in May of 2007.

Coalition Selects First Community Recognition Award Recipient
The Jefferson County Anti-Drug Abuse Coalition selected it's first recipient for the Community Recognition Award.
A Coalition subcommittee selected the recipient from all of the applications received. This year the recipient was Deputy
Scott Renforth. Deputy Renforth works as the Resource Officer for the Edison Local School District. Among those
in attendance at the event was Mrs. Lisa Carmichael, Superintendent of Edison Local School District and Mr. Doug Thoburn,
Principal of Edison Local High School.
The award was given at the Coalition's regular November meeting. Deputy Renforth was humbled in his selection
for this award. Deputy Renforth received a plaque as well as a gift certificate. The Coalition members thanked
Deputy Renforth for his continuing efforts in helping the students to make appropriate choices. Deputy Renforth has
been working as the Resource Officer for 10 years.

Red
Ribbon Event at The Rose Reaches A Vast Audience
If anyone had the notion
that the Red Ribbon Event at The Rose was going to be a ho-hum time, the answer would be “NO WAY, DUDE!” The Jefferson County Anti-Drug Abuse Coalition sponsored the event. It reached an audience of Jefferson County children between the grades of Kindergarten through 5th
Grade. This event was part of the annual celebration of Red Ribbon Week.
Red Ribbon
Week was started as a remembrance of a fallen DEA agent named Enrique Camarena. Each
year, there are events in and out of school to remind children about the dangers of using drugs and alcohol.
This event at The Rose attracted hundreds of
participants. The first act was a singer/guitarist named Sandy Lusco. Sandy had the children singing along to many familiar songs including songs from famous Disney films. In fact, there were times when children helped her by playing percussion instruments. Sandy had everyone singing and clapping to the music throughout her performance.
The main event of the evening was a performance
by Buffo The World’s Strongest Clown. Buffo had many tricks ‘up his
sleeve.’ At times, Buffo would have children assist him with his tricks. He performed many feats of strength, like tearing a telephone book in half and breaking
a board. Buffo’s performance was well received by children and parents
alike. Throughout the performance, Buffo would present the message about being
strong and asking the kids to say “No way, dude!” if they were asked to try drugs or alcohol or tobacco products.
The event finished with pizza and soft drinks
for all the guests. Many event goers were thankful to the Coalition for the event.
The Coalition hopes to have additional events in the County, in the near future.
Great Time Was Had By Stanton Middle School Students at Dance
The students at Stanton Middle School were treated to an anti-drug dance on April 21, 2006. The event was sponsored
by the Coalition. DJ Hubcap provided the music for the evening. The students had a wonderful time dancing.
They also enjoyed the food and refreshments at the event. Prizes were given out throughout the evening for exceptional
skills on the dance floor. The final prize was given to the student with the best Anti-Drug Slogan. Mr. Radinsky
thanked the Coalition for their efforts in putting on the event.
Coalition Was Well Received At Jefferson County Fair
The Coalition was given the opportunity to be a part of the Jefferson County Fair this year. The event was held
from August 15 - August 20. Judge Samuel Kerr was kind enough to house the Coalition and the DARE program in his tent
area this year. Between the DARE program and the Coalition, there were many items given away at the Fair. These
included balloons, pens, pencils, stickers, as well as reading materials on the dangers of drugs and alcohol. The Coalition
thanked Judge Kerr for the opportunity to be a part of the County Fair. Much thanks goes out to those who volunteered
their time and efforts on behalf of the Coalition and the DARE program.
